James Gunn Shuts Down Rumors That the Joker Will Be at the Center of Another Matt Reeves Batman Series
by Jessica Fisher · GeekTyrantAs HBO Max’s series The Penguin comes to a close this week, fans are wondering when we can expect another great show set in the world that Matt Reeves created in the 2022 movie The Batman.
Rumors have been flying around the internet since Reeves has hinted that another series could happen, and there are so many great villains to choose from to make it happen.
Many are stating that the sliver of a scene we saw featuring Barry Keoghan’s Joker in the first film is pointing to an origin series, but as of right now, if any talks have happened, they haven’t happened concerning this character.
DC Boss James Gunn confirmed this on a recent post on Threads linking him to the original rumor, saying, “No truth to this, sorry.”
Then, in a separate post, he said: “Everyone is asking me about this. No, there is absolutely no truth to this. A Joker series is not being discussed, nor has even come up at this time. Sorry.”
Since he took over DC Studios, Gunn’s used social media to debunk rumors about potential projects, such as a video game set within The Batman’s universe.
He has always been up front with fans who ask him about his films in the past, and now he has a whole lot more knowledge being over the entire DC film universe. If there’s something he can’t answer, he won’t, but he’s not much one for misdirection.
For now, we can look forward to the end of The Penguin leading into The Batman: Part II, which is expected in theaters on October 2, 2026.
