YouTube star MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is facing legal action related to his new Amazon-backed reality series, "Beast Games." According to a lawsuit filed by five anonymous participants, the production allegedly failed to provide fair wages, proper breaks, and fostered a hostile work environment.

The plaintiffs claim that throughout the filming of the $5 million game show, contestants were denied minimum wage, overtime pay, and basic rest periods. The lawsuit asserts that their involvement was crucial to the entertainment value of the show but that their treatment fell far below legal standards.

Additionally, the lawsuit includes accusations of sexual harassment, with one female contestant describing the atmosphere as hostile. “I wanted to join because I was a fan of MrBeast and his videos made me smile during the COVID-19 pandemic. I expected to be challenged, but I didn’t think I would be treated like nothing - less than nothing. And as one of the women, I can say it absolutely felt like a hostile environment for us. We honestly could not have been respected less - as people, much less employees - if they tried," a female plaintiff said in the complaint, as reported by Euro News.

"Beast Games" has no confirmed release date yet and is expected to air on Prime Video.

Controversy Before Production Wraps

MrBeast's new show, marketed as the "world’s largest live gameshow," aimed to build on his popularity. However, criticism arose even before production wrapped in Las Vegas. Contestants allege they were misled about the odds of winning, claiming the actual number of competitors was far greater than originally presented. This has led to accusations of false advertising, a violation of California's business regulations.

MrBeast, known for his elaborate and high-stakes challenges on YouTube, has a subscriber base of 316 million. He is known for his reality competitions where participants are asked to complete challenges such as being stranded in a cave for days or participating in a real-life 'Squid Game' - for outrageous sums of prize money.

Donaldson is also famous for giveaway videos, where he apparently gives out everything from free Tesla cars to watering wells he built in Africa.
