‘Alien: Romulus’ Heads to Hulu Later This Month

by · Bloody Disgusting

After scaring up $342 million at the box office and getting an official VHS release, Alien: Romulus heads to streaming just ahead of Thanksgiving for a holiday facehugging treat.

Alien: Romulus debuts on Hulu on November 21, 2024.

In Alien: Romulus, “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: LegacyPacific Rim Uprising) leads the cast alongside Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.

Fede Alvarez co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead). Ridley Scott is on board as producer for the film, the first movie in the franchise to be released by Disney.

Alien: Romulus is based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.

I wrote in my review that “The biggest horror event of the year has arrived, and while it doesn’t shake up the lore or deviate from the path, it’s such a thrilling ride you’ll be hard-pressed to care. Alvarez puts the horror first here, with exquisite craftmanship that immerses you in the insanity.” And, “It’s difficult not to be impressed by the stunning practical effects on display, with Weta Workshop, Legacy Effects, and Studio Gillis all contributing a showstopping array of creature work and grisly demises.”

The highest grossing movie in the franchise to date remains Ridley Scott’s prequel Prometheus with $403.3 million in 2012, while follow-up Alien: Covenant ended its run with $240.8 million in 2017. Alien: Romulus is now the franchise’s second highest grossing film. IMAX previously announced that Alien: Romulus is now IMAX’s highest grossing horror of all time at the global box office, with $40 million in ticket sales for IMAX theaters alone.
