Emmerdale star Georgia Jay has hinted at a sparking new love affair for her character Stephanie Miligan that's set to ruffle feathers, particularly those of her estranged father Caleb (played by William Ash).
The twist unfolds as Steph reconnects with her parents Caleb and Ruby (Beth Cordingly) after she finds herself named in Helen Fox's (Sharon Maughan) will, following the latter's demise. Yet, Steph's inherited fortune is far from her only concern.
In conversation with the Daily Record, Georgia shared insights into Steph's dramatic return: "She comes back into the village, I think it has been a decade or so, and there's some conflict between mum Ruby and Caleb."
Teasing upcoming events, she added: "I can't say too much about it, but it is an exciting storyline to be coming into, the past will be revealed of why she hasn't been in the picture for so long."
Georgia continued, revealing Steph's intentions: "I can say when she sees dad and mum for the first time, she's not there to stay - it's more 'I want something then I'm going to leave'. She wants nothing to do with it and just wants to get the money and go", reports Leicestershire Live.
On top of the inheritance turmoil, Georgia confirmed a brewing romance between Steph and the village's notorious rogue Ross Barton (Michael Parr). While their romance's trajectory remains unknown, their blossoming relationship certainly doesn't sit well with Caleb.
Georgia remarked on the intriguing dynamics of her character's relationship, saying: "There's a lot of fun in that relationship, I think coming from the dismissive and coldness she is going through with her parents, she won't let them off the hook easy."
She elaborated: "It's one of those things where you're so angry and hurt, that you want to hurt them back."
The actress further commented on the rapport with her co-star: "So with Ross, she has that very playful chemistry with him straight up and I think her confidence, sense of humour, and very quick-wit with him does shock him a little bit."
She also noted the unique dynamic between the characters: "He's never had the kind of woman who is in charge, it's a really fun dynamic between them. I don't know where it's going but they definitely have good chemistry when they are together."
Despite Steph not intending to provoke her parents by getting involved with Ross, Georgia pointed out: "Caleb will see it as a 'dagger'."
She added more context to the family tension: "Caleb doesn't enjoy it when he sees us leaving the B and B together. He's not too happy about that, and that Steph up as he tries to stick his nose in."
Beth Cordingly, portraying Ruby, shared her perspective: "To be fair, Ruby is pretty cool in that scenario, like a cool mum, she's in her 30s, let her do it. She is a grown woman, let her do what she wants, which probably isn't helpful."
William Ash, playing Caleb, expressed his character's concerns: "It's his reputation. Caleb doesn't think Ross is good enough for her", to which Beth playfully responded: "You will enjoy watching Caleb getting wound up by it!".
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm.
