An East Lothian town has undergone a dramatic makeover as it becomes the backdrop to a new film starring leading Scottish actors.

The Haddington high street has been transformed to resemble St Andrews in the 1970s for the period film 'Borges & Me'.

A star-studded cast including Emmy winner Alan Cumming, Peter Mullan and Fionn Whitehead will dramatise Jay Parini's memoir about his surreal journey through Scotland as a graduate student at St Andrews.

To set the scene, shop names have changed to include references to St Andrews, written in a retro font. Vintage cars also line the streets, with excited excited Haddington locals sharing footage of the classic motors on social media.

Locals can be seen lining the street before the TikToker is asked to move on. The clip also shows a retro milk truck and buses from the 70's, including a vintage red and white Bluebird bus with the word 'Fife' printed on the side.

Reflecting on the filming, the TikToker said: "That was really exciting. Haddington, when I grew up here was a cultural desert.

"It's good to see it on the film map. There have been three things filmed around here recently."

Locals were excited by the sight of the unusual vehicles

Borges & Me is a co-production between the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands. The latest filming is not the first time that Haddington has welcomed high-profile productions in recent years, with films including the BFG, Summer Solstice, and The Wicker Tree also shooting scenes in the East Lothian town.
