EastEnders legend Michael French is heading back to Albert Square to reprise his role as David Wicks.

The iconic character is back in Walford and there's some drama ahead, with both Bianca Jackson and Cindy Beale surprised to see him.

He is equally shocked to see Cindy, given he thought she was dead. However, it's now known that she didn't die in childbirth whilst in prison several years ago and was actually put in witness protection where she met George Knight and had two children.

Bianca is back in Walford to support Sonia's case after she was accused of killing Reiss' wife Debbie, something which Reiss actually did, so it's fair to say David is returning to a lot of drama.

Michael is used to taking some dramatic roles, where he played Nick Jordan in both Casualty and its spin off show Holby City. He was in the show between 1998 and 2000 before reprising to the role in Casualty between 2006 and 2013.

During his tenure on Holby City, NIck was the Clinical Lead of the Emergency Department in 2008 before he left alongside Yvonne Rippon after the Holby riots. He returned for a month in 2013 before handing the role to Zoe Hanna.

When he returns to EastEnders, there will no doubt be chaos ahead, with Michael coming back nearly 31 years after his debut.

Speaking of his return, Micheal French said: "I feel honoured to be asked to reprise the role of David Wicks once again. It may only be a brief visit, but we know from his past that David never fails to create a lot of drama in a very short time."

Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders Executive Producer, also teased: "David Wicks is undoubtedly one of EastEnders’ most beloved rogues, and we are thrilled to welcome the talented Michael French back to the legendary role as we lead up to the show’s 40th anniversary. David’s character was never shy of drama during his previous stints, and I can assure you this return will be no different."

With David and stepbrother Ian Beale - who is back with his ex Cindy - locked in a decades-long feud, it looks like there could be trouble ahead in Walford, especially when Ian finds out Cindy's former flame is back.

EastEnders airs Mondays through Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
