A Scottish nightclub where Liam Payne 'promised' One Direction would play their first gig if they reunited has reacted to the singer's death.

Payne tragically died on Wednesday evening in Argentina after reportedly falling from a third-floor balcony. The body of the former One Direction star was discovered outside of the Buenos Aires hotel.

As reported by the Daily Record, tributes to the Wolverhampton singer have since poured in from Olly Murs, Cher Lloyd, and more. Amongst the countless celebrities paying their respects, one Glasgow venue that played an important role in Payne's career has chimed in.

Posting on its official Instagram account, The Garage nightclub in Glasgow shared: "We are so incredibly sad to hear of the tragic passing of former One Direction star, Liam Payne. Such a huge loss!"

Alongside the tribute, the venue shared photographs of Payne and the other members of One Direction performing there in December 2010. According to Glasgow Live, it was the group's first performance together outside of X Factor.

Later, in an interview with Clyde 1 in 2021, Payne told presenter Garry Spence that if One Direction ever reunited their first show would be in Glasgow. In particular, he promised the boyband would return to The Garage before any other venue.

Speaking to the singer, Spence said: "Your first gig with [One Direction] was in Scotland, right?"

Liam responded: "It was, at The Garage, yes. You know I think it would be great at some point if we did come back together but you know, who knows."

The host replied: "When you do, it's absolutely expected that your first gig as One Direction coming back together will be at The Garage in Glasgow, correct?"

Payne agreed: "Oh I mean absolutely, absolutely."
