Liam Payne's girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, took to social media to explain why she left the former One Direction star alone in Argentina before his tragic death.

Liam's passing was announced on Wednesday.

He had been holidaying in Buenos Aires with Kate when he tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel. It is believed that Kate was not present at the time of his death.

Liam, who shot to fame in 2011 after appearing on The X Factor and being placed in a band by Simon Cowell alongside Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan, was in Argentina following an appearance at a concert by his former bandmate, Niall.

However, Kate revealed in a TikTok video that she felt it was time to return home to Florida.

She said: "I was so ready to leave. Love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long and we were supposed to be there for five days, turned into two weeks and I was just like, 'I need to go home.'"

Liam chose not to accompany her, although Kate did not specify why. Instead, she shared details of her luxury flight home, including a steak meal and a joke about her seat number being "1D," a nod to her boyfriend's former band.

Kate also confessed that she usually travels with a Squishmellow, but had given hers to Liam, reports the Mirror.

Liam was tragically found dead, having fallen from his third-floor hotel room, approximately 48 hours after a social media post. Emergency services, including police, firefighters and ambulances, were spotted outside the hotel following the incident.

It's reported that police were summoned due to reports of a man behaving aggressively at the hotel, possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A body was discovered in the hotel's internal patio.

The hotel manager is said to have alerted the police. It's thought that Liam fell from a height of around 13 or 14 metres, sustaining "very serious injuries incompatible with life."

However, Alberto Crescenti, a spokesperson for the City ambulance service, stated that he had fallen approximately 40 metres, suffering "severe injuries which were incompatible with life."

In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.

"At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."
