Sunday night's broadcast (November 3) of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? left viewers befuddled as they grappled with the same predicament.
The beloved ITV quiz show welcomed back Jeremy Clarkson as the host, with Kidderminster's Doug Cheetham stepping up as the first contender.
Expectations were lofty, but audiences were soon mired in bewilderment mere moments into the show, fuelling debates over whether it was a rerun or fresh content.
The conundrum arose after the conclusion of the programme's 39th series in October, according to the Mirror.
Perplexed fans swarmed to social media channels such as Twitter, now X, voicing their confusion with comments like: "Is this a new episode?"
Surprise rippled through the platform with tweets stating: "I thought this had finished last week."
Confusion compounded as a third audience member observed: "Are they mixing up new and old episodes? I think freeview tells me this is series 20 episodes 17?" (sic)
Someone else asked: "How is this a new episode? They have Covid screens between the contestants."
A different user speculated: "They must have forgotten this episode cos last week it ended another series." (sic)
One more viewer questioned the programming decision, remarking: "This must have been an episode recorded in early 2022 that has been sat on the shelf all this time. Notice the lack of handshakes. Odd why ITV didn't put it out with the other episodes of the series."
An update on X cleared the air for viewers, explaining: "If you're confused about the episode of #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire which are airing on ITV right now... they're old episodes (not connected to the series which finished a fortnight ago) which have been left on the shelf (as you can tell by the Covid screens)." (sic)
Viewers can rest assured that Jeremy Clarkson's place presenting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is secure, with reports confirming his continued lead of the popular quiz show.
ITV has thrilled fans by officially announcing that this winter will witness the return of the Celebrity specials of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, featuring an impressive lineup of stars ready to win hefty sums for charitable causes.
Sources are abuzz with anticipation, suggesting that the upcoming celebrity editions could very well be "the best season yet", heightening the excitement among followers of the game show. This news follows closely behind the disclosure by the Clarkson's Farm star of his recent health scare, where he underwent emergency heart surgery after falling seriously ill during a vacation.
Writing for the Sunday Times, Clarkson recounted his frightening healthcare scare, revealing how a sudden inability to stand up from breakfast led him to question if his "limbs were working properly".
The health challenges did not stop there for Jeremy; he also encountered trouble with seemingly effortless tasks such as swimming and walking. Upon feeling an ominous "tightening in his chest" once back on British soil, he found himself hurriedly transported to the hospital in an ambulance.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? is available to watch on ITVX.
