Heart Radio host Jamie Theakston diagnosed with cancer as Amanda Holden breaks news to listeners

The 53-year-old broadcaster has been diagnosed with Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer following a surgery on his vocal chords.

Heart Radio presenter Jamie Theakston has revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer in a heart breaking Instagram post.

The 53-year-old, who recently had an operation to remove his vocal chords, revealed that doctors had discovered Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer in his body, the Express reports.

The radio host told his 73k followers: "Hi folks, as you know I recently had an operation to remove my vocal chords. The biopsy has identified this as Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer.

"So...I have cancer...but cancer doesn't have me! The prognosis is very positive and I'm hoping to be back with you in October. Until then, I've been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK and Amanda."

He wrapped up with: "Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I'll have a great story to tell...Jamie x."

His Heart Radio co-star Amanda Holden also took to Instagram to share her own message to spread the news as she wrote: "Our wonderful @jamie.theakston has been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer. His prognosis is very good and he has an incredible team around him.

"Jamie. We love and miss you and look forward to seeing you very soon. With @sophietheakstonjewellery, your gorgeous boys, us and the entire nation with you.. YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS."

Jamie, who co-hosts the Heart Breakfast show with Amanda every weekday morning from 6:30am until 10am, has also had a distinguished career presenting numerous TV shows across major British networks.

Since 2007, Jamie has been wedded to Sophie Siegle, and they are parents to two children. He resides with his family in West London.

His diagnosis comes after fans voiced concerns over his altered voice on air, prompting the broadcaster to swiftly seek medical advice, leading to the discovery of a lesion on his vocal chords.

Support has been pouring in from listeners and celebrities alike in the comments, wishing him well. LBC's Carol Vorderman shared her relief, noting: "Sending best Jamie. thank goodness your listeners spotted the change in your voice, all found early and you'll be back keeping everyone happy very soon."

Jamie Oliver expressed solidarity with his fellow Jamie, commenting: "Big love brother you got this sending love xxx."

Married at First Sight's expert Mel Schilling sent: "Sending all my love and cancer-kicking strength Jamie," while Strictly Come Dancing favourite Oti Mabuse added: "Get well soon."

While covering for the ailing presenter, Amanda Holden told her audience that they must carry on and promised to "hold the fort" during his recovery period.
