Lulu's support act recalls time he sparked dramatic police search in Nottingham

Legendary singer Lulu is coming to Nottingham and her support act Kris James can’t wait to show her around - even though he once got lost here and sparked a police search. Kris, whose aunt Jeanette Davison is from Nottingham, said he’d love to show the Shout singer his favourite hotspots here during her birthday week.

Lulu, who turned 76 on Sunday (November 10), is performing her Farewell tour this Wednesday, November 6, at the Royal Concert Hall and Kris has something special in mind.

The Liverpool-born singer, who has his own catchy single The Fire out on Friday (November 8), revealed: “I love Nottingham even though I got lost here when I was a little boy. My dad looked everywhere for me and feared that I’d gone to the quarter mile (Sherwood Rise) tunnel to play. I’d ended up jumping on the train back to Liverpool on my own. He wasn’t too happy, but was still very relieved because he’d got the police and everyone to look for me.”

Kris added: “It’s great to be back here with Lulu and I’d love to show her some of my favourite haunts. The Orange Tree was my favourite place to eat, but it’s shut now. I love Alchemilla though for fine dining and they have won lots of awards. Bar Iberico is sensational too.

Kris, 35, who loves history, often visits the castle as well as his aunt when he’s here. He laughed: “I often go to my aunt's house as she makes the best fish and chips and pork pies. I think Lulu would love them too.”

Kris, who used to be in boyband The Scheme, recently toured with Will Young and Anastacia but said performing alongside Shout singer Lulu is the cherry on the cake. He added: “Lulu is just such a legend and her life stories are incredible. I feel really honoured of be part of her farewell tour. And I know she’s going to love the Nottingham crowds.”
