BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans shares huge worry ahead of show after 'grope gate'

by · NottinghamshireLive

Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans has opened up about his concerns ahead of Saturday night's performance. The opera singer, also known for his role in the Go Compare adverts, is dancing with Katya Jones and they're preparing a Rumba to Shirley Bassey's 'This Is My Life' for the show's 'Icons' week.

At 52, Wynne, who recently faced a misunderstanding over an alleged 'grope' incident on the show, expressed his worries during an Instagram Q&A. He said: "I don't know. I don't look at what's coming up. I just have to focus on getting through this week. I'm now the oldest and the fattest, so the fact I've made it this far is incredible."

Wynne also addressed the incident with Katya that raised eyebrows among viewers when he was seen placing his hand on her waist, which she quickly moved away during the live broadcast. The pair later clarified on social media that their interaction was an "inside" joke and not meant to be taken seriously.

However, the negative attention left Wynne feeling "heartbroken". He shared: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me. It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke."

"It was a stupid joke that went wrong, okay? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted. Everything's on Katya's socials. She's talked about it. She's explained that it was a joke.", reports the Mirror.

The classical singer added: "She wasn't offended in the least. She doesn't feel uncomfortable. We've got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I'm sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke. And that's all there is. There is no real story, really. I feel weird apologising because I feel like I've not really done anything."

Appearing together on the Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two, Wynne discussed their upcoming dance routine, mentioning, "Rumba, I'm enjoying, but I don't know if I'm doing it right. I've got concerns about the hips. The hips, the hips, the hips."

With support from Katya, she encouraged him by saying, "The hips are getting looser. Wynne's got beautifully shaped long legs so if we can put the legs with the hips, it'll be perfection. Can we get there by Saturday, who knows? ".
