‘F Marry Kill’ Trailer: Lucy Hale Is a True-Crime Fanatic Who Might Be Dating a Serial Killer

We’ve all been there: wondering if your latest fling might have a double life…just not as a serial killer (hopefully).

“F Marry Kill” takes its title quite literally as Lucy Hale leads the genre-bending twist on a rom-com about a woman who suspects her beau might be a murderer. Think “Based on a True Story” meets “The Bachelor.”

The official synopsis reads: “When true-crime junkie Eva Vaugh (Hale) is shoved into the dating app world by her besties on her 30th birthday, she suddenly finds herself at the center of a real-life murder case. As new details about the murders are revealed on her favorite podcast, she realizes that one of the three men she’s dating could be the infamous ‘Swipe Right Killer’ terrorizing the city. Now it’s up to Eva and her ride-or-die friends to figure out which date is a f***boy, a potential husband, or a killer in this comedy-thriller.”

Samer Salem and Virginia Gardner co-star along with Jedidiah Goodacre, Brendan Morgan, Brooke Nevin, and Bethany Brown. 

“F Marry Kill” is directed by Laura Murphy (“Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens”), with BuzzFeed Studios producing.

Hale’s had a hold on the rom-com genre since her “Pretty Little Liars” breakout role. Hale led “The Hating Game” adaptation and has starred in a slew of direct-to-streaming genre hits.

And the deadly rom-com twist is a new trend: upcoming Peacock series “Laid” stars Oscar-nominated “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actress Stephanie Hsu as a woman whose exes are all dying in unusual ways.

“When we started to develop ‘Laid,’ we were intrigued by the idea of bringing back the old-school, traditional romantic comedy (swelling music! kisses in the rain! Anne Hathaway or someone who is also appealing!), but because we were living in such a dark time (pandemic! industry strikes!), we felt it needed to have some kind of twist,” co-showrunners Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna said in a press statement. “Sure, it could be optimistic and heartwarming and make you believe in love again, but it should probably also have suspense and death and blood.”  

It seems that “F Marry Kill” felt similarly…
