“So, can I ask a question,” she said. “I have had so many people come up to me — who are so nice, y’all are so nice — the first thing you say to me is, ‘Wow, you’re so much prettier in person!’”
“The Little Mermaid” star wondered if there was something about her on-screen appearance that was leading to the “backhanded compliment.”
“Do I look ugly in pictures or something,” she asked. “What does that mean?” She also questioned if people “thought I was not cute or something before?’”
Just so it’s clear, Halle is beautiful in pictures, movies and TV series. When she pops up on social media to show off her natural hair, she’s beautiful. And when she posted photos of her pregnant belly, she was beautiful.
We also need to salute her for having the courage to voice these feelings. She’s a someone who’s usually very open with her fans, so it’s admirable that she set boundaries for future interactions.
It’s wild that “The Color Purple” actress has to deal with all this while she’s balancing life as a single mom with her rising career. Bailey shares baby son Halo with rapper DDG, with whom she recently split. Now, she’s navigating co-parenting alongside her ex, while figuring out life as a working mom.
Halle Bailey is a real life Disney Princess. She’s gorgeous inside and out. It’s so crucial that we all remember, no matter what our intentions are, words have power, and the meaning may get lost amidst our excitement.
