Social media users slammed Kishori as the video surfaced online. A user said, “She teaches you non-materialism. So that you people can follow and she can extract materialism out of that,” while another added, “That's why we need to check our speakers and choose only genuine ones. If one doesn't follow what she preaches, then she's not the right speaker.”

Users also suggested that Kishori herself posted this video of hers at the airport and deleted it later following the backlash.

Several users even highlighted the other luxury items she wore, such as a high-end Rolex watch, raising questions about the contrast between her teachings and her lifestyle.

However, a few users came to her defense as one of them mentioned, “So what, she is a kathavachak, not a sanyasi,” while another added, “It is not a leather bag.”

Born in Kolkata on July 13, 1995, Jaya Kishori has been associated with spiritual and motivational speaking from an early age. She gained popularity on social media for her talks on religious devotion, non-materialism, and selflessness.
