Malavika Mohanan on Mammootty offering her debut: Was shaadi ka rishta kinda situation

Actor Malavika Mohanan recently talked about how she came across her debut role opposite Dulquer Salman in the 2013 Malayalam film, Pattam Pole. She spoke about how she was spotted by Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty.

After making her Bollywood debut with Yudhra, actor Malavika Mohanan, in an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, spoke about how she bagged her debut role in the 2013 Malayalam film Pattam Pole, opposite Dulquer Salman, thanks to Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty. She revealed that the veteran actor spotted her on one of the sets of his films and suggested her for a role opposite his son.

During the conversation, Malavika said, “My first film was offered to me through Mammootty, the iconic actor.” Talking about how it happened, she added, “They were casting for a film opposite his son Dulquer Salman which was a love story and they were looking for a girl. It was a very 'shaadi ka rishta' kind of situation, where Mammootty saw me and thought I’d be good for his son, except it was for a movie.”

She further explained, “Casting in Malayalam movies for a long time used to happen like this; it used to be like a shaadi-rishta thing.” Malavika also mentioned that the whole process of auditions for casting has only developed in recent years in the Malayalam film industry.

During the interview, Malavika also spoke about her upcoming collaboration with Prabhas in her debut Telugu film, The Raja Saab. Talking about the project, which is touted as a horror-comedy, she said, "It's my Telugu debut, and I waited a long time for it. I wanted the right film to foray into the industry, and I think nothing gets better than working with Prabhas sir."

Malavika Mohanan, who is the daughter of renowned cinematographer KU Mohanan, was last seen in Yudhra, which marked her Bollywood debut and also starred Siddhant Chaturvedi and Raghav Juyal.

She also appeared in the Tamil action-adventure film Thangalaan, alongside Chiyaan Vikram and Parvathy.

Her next Telugu project - The Raja Saab - directed by Maruthi and starring Prabhas, is set to release on April 10, 2025.
