Actor Timothee Chalamet surprised fans by attending his own look-alike contest in Lower Manhattan on Sunday, October 27, an event that attracted hundreds of onlookers, triggered a police dispersal order, and resulted in at least one arrest.

Accompanied by bodyguards, Chalamet briefly posed with contestants sporting high cheekbones and curly hair like his own, with some dressing as characters he portrayed in Wonka and the Dune series.

As contestants began their red carpet walk in Washington Square Park, authorities intervened, issuing a dispersal order and fining organisers $500 for holding an "unpermitted costume contest."

Flyers for the contest, promising a $50 reward for the best look-alike, had circulated around New York in the days leading up to the event, generating significant social media buzz and thousands of RSVPs.

Ultimately, Staten Island resident Miles Mitchell, 21, was declared the winner after donning a purple Willy Wonka ensemble and playfully distributing sweets to the crowd.

On the professional front, Chalamet’s upcoming projects include Marty Supreme, a sports biopic directed by Josh Safdie in which he stars as ping-pong legend Marty Reisman.

Additionally, he is set to portray a young Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, slated for release in December.
