'Venom: The Last Dance' Records Lowest Box Office Opening of Franchise

Hitting $22 million USD domestically.

Sony Pictures‘ Venom: The Last Dance opening has seen a slower opening that its predecessors within the franchise in North America. Making $22 million USD from 4,131 domestic theaters across Friday and previews, the numbers are much lower than the first-day debuts of the first and second Venom film.

The first Venom film which released in 2019, drew in $32 million USD on the first date and its 2021 sequel Let There Be Carnage hit $37 million USD, making Venom: The Last Dance the lowest earning within the franchise so far. The lower number lands behinds initial projections and forecasts which originally expected the film to land $65 million USD on opening weekend. While The Last Dance is still trending downward for the franchise, the film is still on-track to be the film with the biggest opening weekend since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in September. The first Venom film scored $642 million USD internationally while the second hit $293 million USD overseas.

While The Last Dance had a tighter budget than most superhero films at $120 million USD, reviews have been poor. Fans appear to be less enthusiastic this time around receiving a B- from Cinemascore. This film saw Hardy return as the haggard journalist Eddie Brock as the titular role. He is joined alongside Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Cristo Fernandez and Stephen Graham who was featured in the second film.
