Coupang Play's 'SNL Korea Season 6' remains silent amid controversy over the sexual parody of 'Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born'

On October 28th, the production team of Coupang Play's 'SNL Korea Season 6' stated that they "have not released any specific statement yet" regarding the controversy over the sexual parody of 'Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born'.

Previously, the show faced backlash for parodies, such as those involving NewJeans' Hani during the National Assembly audit and Nobel Literature Prize-winning author Han Kang, yet no official statements were provided at that time. They also drew criticism for mocking a non-celebrity YouTuber, who publicly expressed discomfort, but the production team did not address the matter.

The current controversy centers on a parody of 'Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born', a show that focuses on women's aspirations. In the skit, the title was altered to 'Jeonnyeoni,' a play on the word "jeot," which is associated with breastfeeding or a woman’s breast in Korean. 
This wordplay introduced a suggestive undertone, leading to criticism for being sexually inappropriate. 

The skit included altered lyrics of the traditional pansori Love Song, with phrases like "Come here, let's strip and do it," as well as gestures that emphasized certain body parts and simulated sexual acts, causing widespread discomfort. Cast member Jung Yi Rang made comments such as, "I feel like I might get pregnant just watching this," and "It might help with the birthrate policy."

Despite being at the center of several controversies recently, 'SNL Korea' has continued to remain silent, offering no response to the latest criticism.
