Erika Carr, Ogden Utah Mom Raises Over $166,000 (and Counting) on GoFundMe to Finance her Own Funeral
by MyNewsGH · MyNewsGh.comAfter learning that she has terminal cancer, Erika Diarte-Carr, an Ogden, Utah mother of two, has raised about $166,000 on GoFundMe to pay for her own burial.
Carr is nearing death from cancer, having spent the last few years fighting small-cell lung carcinoma (SCLC).
Carr was further diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in January, which made her situation worse.
As she said on GoFundMe: “On May 7th, 2022, the day before Mother’s Day, I walked into the emergency room due to what I thought to be just a normal shoulder injury and walked out diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer…the doctor then proceeded to tell me that there were multiple tumors that had metastasized to other parts of my body including my skeletal, which is how we were able to find the tumor that was causing my shoulder pain. By that point the damage had already been done.”
Erika was formerly able to care for her two children, work, and fight cancer all at the same time, but she is now physically unable to do so.
She began fundraising in order to pay for her treatment, but after seeing her doctor on September 18, 2024, she was given a dire prognosis.
Erika was given three months to live, and she is now focusing on fundraising for her own burial as well as for her children, Jeremiah, 7, and Aaliyah 5, once she passes away.

Her campaign has gone incredibly viral, touching people’s hearts everywhere and, as of the time this article was published, raising an incredible $166,739 in funds.
