'My wife divorced me four days after wedding – I thought we were deeply in love'

A heartbroken man shared how his wife filed for divorce just four days after their wedding because she found someone new.

The 28-year-old explained how he met his wife at work when she was secretly dating a married man. However, this relationship ended because he refused to leave his wife for her.

He said on Reddit : "I got to know her more and I saw a deeper side to her. We fell in love, adopted a puppy, and moved in together during Covid. Everything was amazing, our friends got along well, and she integrated into my family well. I proposed to her with a beautiful ring, hired an amazing photographer and videographer, and had my family get involved with the staging of the proposal."

However, during their relationship, he came to learn she had been cheating on him with "some guy" from her 24-hour fitness gym. She had been meeting up with him at the beach to spend time together.

He added: "It was the same beach I proposed to her at. Who knows what else happened? It wasn’t until later I found out she had still been Snapchatting that married man early on in our relationship, sending him scandalous photos/videos. In any case, I had been cheated on twice in our relationship, and after the second time, we had both agreed to go to therapy individually and couples therapy."

The man eventually forgave her and believed their relationship was stronger after attending couples' therapy. But after their wedding day, he came to learn she was cheating on him for the third time.

He said: "It was a new guy she met at a CrossFit gym she had just started a few months prior to our wedding. I don’t care about the details here - whether it was just an emotional type of cheating or physical. Note that I only found out after the wedding.

"The night before our wedding, we stayed in different rooms. Different hotels, even. She was FaceTiming that new guy and only got three hours of sleep. As for me? I was clueless about it all and having a blast spending time with family and friends that I hadn’t seen in a while - many family members who had flown in from overseas!

"Isn’t that what we were supposed to be doing? The wedding ceremony and dinner reception was a blast! Amazing speeches, good drinks, Lots of dancing. My wife and I had taken dance lessons to prepare for our first dance together. We even surprised our guests with a CO2 cannon. It was so fun!"

But the next day, she texted him asking for 'some space'. Then four days after they said their vows, she asked him for a divorce and to move out of their shared house. He said: "One week later, she had sex with the guy! How insane is that!

"To say that I was blindsided doesn’t even begin to describe what was happening to me. Now, three weeks later, I am still processing everything. I scrambled to get words out, my emotions together, I was grasping for anything that would give me answers. It was like a cinder block was tied to my ankles weighing me down under waves of confusion and sadness."

While most users shared their sympathies with the man, others agreed he is better off without her. One user said: "Don’t get divorced. Get the marriage annulled." Another user added: "I mean, don’t get involved with a woman who’s involved with a married man. There’s her character right there. How would you expect anything different from a home-wrecker!" A third said: "Well, you hooked up with a girl who was sleeping with a married man and you knew about it. I hope you learned a valuable lesson here."
