Gogglebox behind the scenes secrets revealed by former employee as myths debunked
by Lucretia Munro · Irish MirrorGooglebox is by far one of the most talked about TV shows since it launched in 2014, due to the magnetic commentary from some of its stars.
Over its ten year span, the show has made household names of its stars including Scarlett Moffatt and Stephen Lustig Webb. And like most reality TV shows, fans have always been curious as to how the show is filmed. So it was welcomed when someone claiming to be a former employee of the show, was ready to spill the beans on the behind the scenes secrets.
Taking to Reddit, the alleged employee wrote: "I worked on Gogglebox, feel free to ask me questions." And it took no time at all before a user asked: "I've heard rumours that the show is scripted, any truth in this?" The former employee claimed the show is not scripted but the cast are provided with brief. The replied: "No it's not scripted. However, the families are briefed before filming as to what they're going to watch that evening. Also the producers watch the shows before the families and they know which sections are likely to provoke reactions."

Moving away from the format of the show, another user asked if the families are given free dinners during filming and if this was a form of payment or simply a perk of the show. In response, the tea-spiller said: ""Haha, I think all families are paid. But in the first season yes we bought their dinner if they fancied a takeout." Jumping back to the format of the show, the next questioned asked how producers determine what is to be cut and what should be left in.
The person claiming to have worked on the show appeared less vocal in their response over fears of being "sued." But they said: "Too much to write and probably not get sued for... but a lot involved Steph and Dom [Parker] just getting very drunk, Leon being absolutely hilarious just sitting there having an old scratch, and some bloody hilarious comments from the guys in Brighton that weren't quite clean enough!"
One of the last questions asked was about how the filming schedule is arranged. The whistle-blower explained: "When the families can fit us in around their lives generally, as this isn't a full time job. And then making it work around who can watch what when. "
Last month, Ellie Warner, who has become a fan favourite since she joined the show, revealed that she has added to her family with a Chihuahua puppy. The TV star, who along with her sister Izzy have become household names, gave fans an insight into her family's summer, with a photo round-up. And in one of the snaps was one of the pup seen with her other pet pooches.
