Lady Gaga Spreads ‘Disease,’ Looks Sickening
by Jennifer Zhan · VULTUREHappy Halloween, Little Monsters: Lady Gaga dropped a seasonally appropriate visual for “Disease,” our first taste of upcoming album LG7, on October 29. The four-and-a-half-minute music video stars several Gagas, including one whose bloodshot eye peeks out of a mask that’s part of her all-black outfit. At different points, the Gagas (Gagii?) fight each other, sprint down the street, dance, and even hug. There are chains, moving walls, and an ending scene where one Gaga sashays off.
What does it all mean? Gaga offered some insight in an Instagram Story posted before the video premiere. “I think a lot about the relationship I have with my own inner demons. It’s never been easy for me to face how I get seduced by chaos and turmoil. It makes me feel claustrophobic,” she wrote. “Disease is about facing that fear, facing myself and my inner darkness, and realizing that sometimes I can’t win or escape the parts of myself that scare me. That I can try and run from them but they are still part of me and I can run and run but eventually I’ll meet that part of myself again, even if only for a moment.” She went on to note that she is every actor in “the plays that are my art and life.” Sounds like she’ll be working overtime in any future visuals for this album rollout, yeah?
