Here's Where Billy Fits Into The MCU After The "Agatha All Along" Finale
by Francesca Rivera · BuzzFeed🚨✨Spoilers ahead! ✨🚨
The mind-blowing two-episode finale of Agatha All Along wraps up Agatha's (Kathryn Hahn) journey and paves the road for Billy Maximoff's (Joe Locke) next moves in the MCU.
After finding a place for Tommy's soul and escaping the final trial of The Road, Agatha and Death (Aubrey Plaza) face off. Sacrificing herself to Death (Aubrey Plaza) to spare Billy's life, Agatha returns to him as a ghost and breaks the reality of The Road to the young man.
Billy realizes that he created The Road, manifesting something further revealed to have been a centuries-long con by Agatha to steal witches' powers.
Ain't life a witch?
Episode 9, "Maiden Mother Crone," shows Agatha, years after she killed her coven, traveling from town to town with her son Nicholas "Nicky" Scratch - whom she made, yes, from scratch. No magic. This immediately puts a target on his back from Death, but she allows Agatha to have an undetermined amount of time with him.
Agatha and Nicky create "The Ballad of the Witches' Road" as a little ditty between them. Agatha uses Nicky's angelic voice and their song about a Witches' Road to lure curious witches into Agatha's power-zapping traps.
Eventually, Death spirits Nicky away from Agatha, and Agatha turns her grief into centuries of killing, letting "The Ballad of the Witches Road" become witch lore from which she preys and benefits.
Now a ghost, Agatha appears to Billy with her comic-accurate gray hair.
Can you dig it? I definitely can.
This look matches more closely to the traditional portrayal of Agatha in the comics, and it's one Hahn prefers the most.
Billy tries to banish Agatha, but after a heart-to-heart, they decide that they could make a good team — a "coven two," if you will — and go on to find Tommy.
Fulfilling her prophecy, Agatha becomes the spiritual guide to Billy and joins him on his mission to find the newly placed soul of Tommy. After all, a young witch needs a teacher to help him control his awesome power.
But beyond finding Tommy, what could lie ahead for Billy in the MCU?
Maybe he'll also find his papa along the way.
Vision is also important to founding the Young Avengers team when the Avengers are disbanded (kind of like they are right now in the MCU). At the end of WandaVision, the reconstructed all-white version of Vision (Paul Bettany) flew away from Westview. His spin-off series supposedly follows Vision as he finds himself again.
In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Bettany said that he is eager to rewatch Agatha All Along, "There’s so much for me to learn moving forward into my contribution."
Billy could also join the Young Avengers.
Phases Four and Five have gradually introduced members of the Young Avengers. WandaVision, of course, introduced Billy and Tommy, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier briefly introduced Eli Bradley (Elijah Richardson) as Isaiah Bradley's grandson and hero Patriot, Hawkeye features Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Ms. Marvel focused on Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finally featured a grown-up Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton).
At the end of The Marvels, Kamala approaches Kate about a new initiative à la Nick Fury, confirming the Young Avengers as a focus for the MCU going forward, and personally, I think Billy and Kamala would make fast friends!
Billy's journey seems like it will culminate in reuniting with Wanda... somehow.
Early on in the days of the Young Avengers, Billy and the team find speedster Tommy Shepherd in a juvenile detention center, and he joins their team.
Avengers: The Children's Crusade is a comic book event that leads Billy and Tommy (as reincarnated versions of Billy and Tommy) to Wanda, reuniting their fractured family. I'm ready to be emotionally destroyed.
Wanda's whereabouts are unknown at the moment, as she seemingly was crushed by a big ol' tower at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but no one wants to put the final word on her fate. And, of course, these are comic book movies. No one stays dead.
She could have a big part to play in Avengers: Doomsday if Robert Downey Jr.'s powerful sorcerer Victor Von Doom is to come into play, especially if they follow the plot of The Children's Crusade, where Billy finds Wanda without her memories and engaged to Doom!
This makes Billy a key player for the future of the MCU and I can't wait to see how and where this new road takes us.
