Chappell Roan Just Revealed Why She's Hoping She Doesn't Win A Grammy Award, And The Reason Why Has Gotten The Internet Riled Up ... Again

As of recent, the "Good Luck Babe" singer has taken quite the heat on the internet. Between cancelling smaller gigs to perform at the VMAs, to calling out fans for their "weird" behaviour, to having a tense interaction with a photographer on the VMAs red carpet — there's no shortage of opinion of one of the world's biggest pop stars right now.
And now, a comment from her Sept. 16 interview with The Face is going viral online — and it's gotten the internet riled up again. I'm here to break it all down for you.
The interview discusses Chappell's recent meteoric rise to fame and that given this success, nominations for the GRAMMY Awards in 2025 "seem like a no-brainer." And her response to this seemed to confuse readers online.
The publication explains how Chappell is "at best, iffy" about awards like the GRAMMYs, and Chappell says, "I'm kind of hoping I don't win."
She goes on to explain this preference: "Because then everyone will get off my ass: 'See guys, we did it and we didn't win, bye'! I won't have to do this again!" And instead of focusing on awards, it sounds like Chappell is focusing on "making this sustainable" with longer-term goals than just winning a GRAMMY.
This definitely confused me at first, but I think I get it now.
But the internet was quick to call Chappell out, because you actually have to submit yourself for consideration to get nominated for a GRAMMY. And because it's predicted Chappell is about to get some huge nominations, her and her team must have applied for those (in the hopes of winning).

Like, most artists dream of winning a GRAMMY because it's THE biggest honor in the music industry, so it's definitely unorthodox for Chappell say she may not want to win one.
But most of all, people are simply getting frustrated with all of these Chappell-related controversies as of late — even fans of hers.
Some Chappell fans are, however, coming to her defense, explaining that she's not at fault for speaking up and being honest. So opinions are definitely divided.
