Sabrina Carpenter Is Releasing A Duet With *This* '00s Pop Legend

by · BuzzFeed

Calling all millennials and Gen Z'ers! I have just the thing to unite us today. Because an '00s pop queen is officially collaborating with Sabrina Carpenter, and people are LIVING FOR IT.

Yep, you heard right: it's the absolutely show-stopping Christina Aguilera!

Basically, to celebrate 25 years since her debut album released (ouch, that makes me feel old), Christina is releasing a live EP on Spotify with six of her most iconic songs, re-recorded. Her two special guest stars on the album are Sabrina Carpenter, as we know, and Machine Gun Kelly.

Machine Gun Kelly's appearance on the album — specifically on the masterpiece "Genie in a Bottle" — is already receiving mixed reviews. But on the other hand, Sabrina's feature and the accompanied teaser is getting people super excited for the live EP's release on Sept. 23.

Since Sabrina's meteoric rise in popularity this summer, people started comparing her to Christina Aguilera — like, she's the Gen Z version of Xtina. Some even reference the duo as "mother and daughter" (including Sabrina herself), which is just adorable.

Don't tell me you can't see it.

So Christina featuring Sabrina on one of her most popular tracks ever? It's nothing short of genius. Show-stopping. Incredible. You get it.

And what song is Sabrina's feature on, you might ask? None other than the 1999 number-one hit, "What A Girl Wants."

The other 4 songs on her new live EP are: Come On Over, Obvious, I Turn To You, and Reflection.

I KNOW, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT EITHER. Like, what a choice!!! It's feminine, sensual, fun... all things Short 'n Sweet.

Not only does Sabrina remind people a lot of a young Christina, but she also grew up a big fan, making this collab even more perfect. "I was 11 years old and you couldn't get her name out of my mouth," Sabrina said in an August interview with Paper Magazine. "She's very special to me. Those songs raised me."

And of course, Christina Aguilera complimented Sabrina right back. On recreating these songs, Christina told Rolling Stone, "I laughed, I cried, I reconnected with old friends, and I made some very special new ones." And um, I'm gonna assume she means Sabrina!!

Along with the announcement, Christina also released a teaser of the new version of "What A Girl Wants," and it's actually what dreams are made of. Like, if you didn't understand why this was so perfect before, you definitely will once you watch it.

Naturally, people absolutely love to see these two queens uniting. Like, I'm not the only one absolutely losing my chill over this:

So there's your "when worlds collide" moment of the day. I hope this means we've entered a new chapter in pop culture, one full of nostalgia, love, and unity between millennial and Gen Z stars. (Yes, I'm aware I'm getting overdramatic here.)
