This Morning legend takes swipe at King Charles and Camilla as she talks 'messy mistakes'
by Samantha Masters · DevonLiveFern Britton has candidly discussed the importance of embracing mistakes in life – even if you're a member of the Royal Family. In a chapter in her new book, dedicated to her own blunders and the lessons learned, the former This Morning presenter reflected on how such experiences are essential for growth.
"First things first: we all make mistakes. A life without mess would not be worth living," she wrote. "The messy stuff in our lives challenges and teaches us. Failure is just a rehearsal for success."
She went on to name King Charles and Queen Camilla as notable figures who have navigated their share of mistakes, adding: "When I think about making mistakes, Queen Camilla comes to mind. She's made a hell of a mess. So has the King. So has everybody."
Despite past controversies, Fern notes that Queen Camilla has managed to "repower", especially through the King's current cancer battle. "Suddenly the King is ill and – bang! – she's right there, front and centre as if she were born to it.
"She owns the role and has such warmth and approachability," Fern penned.
The host turned author also praised Camilla for stepping into a significant role following the Queen's passing in 2022, adding: "It is almost as if she is the poster girl for repowering."
Alongside Royal anecdotes, Fern shared her personal mishaps ranging from swearing on live TV to everyday motherhood slip-ups.
The ex Celebrity Big Brother star has her three eldest children, twins Harry and Jack, 29, and Grace, 26, from her first marriage to Clive Jones, and 23-year-old daughter Winnie with second husband Phil Vickery.
The mother-of-four candidly discussed her approach to past mistakes, adding: "Some of them are tiny, some of them huge. Some of them funny, some mortifying. No matter how deeply ashamed you feel, afte r a while you generally have to laugh."
Fern Britton's book The Older I Get... How I Repowered My Life is available to pre-order ahead of its official release on November 7.
