Death in Paradise has confirmed the return of Danny John-Jules in first-look pictures at Ralf Little's replacement.

Don Gilet will play the show's new lead detective, DI Mervin Wilson, and will make his debut in the Christmas special.

The synopsis for the new detective's arrival reads: "Making his much-anticipated debut in the feature-length Death in Paradise Christmas special later this year, before a brand-new series in 2025, Mervin arrives on the idyllic isle of Saint Marie from his home in London."

"While assisting with a case following a short trip, the team discovers Mervin may have an ulterior motive for being on the island.."

In one picture, Don is standing in front of the sea wearing beige trousers, a blue shirt, and a hat. Another is a close-up image of the new DI standing in front of the police jeep by the station, reports the Express.

Speaking about his new role, Don said: "I am delighted to have returned to the wonderful island of Guadeloupe and this time to be stepping into the well-worn shoes of the Detective Inspector.

"It's been a real pleasure filming such a beloved series alongside the hardworking cast and crew. I can't wait for the fans to see how DI Mervin Wilson fares on the island, how he fits within the Saint Marie police team and what secrets may unfold.."

Filming for the Yuletide episode and new episodes has concluded in the tropical locale of Guadeloupe. Viewers can anticipate seeing familiar faces like Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, and Elizabeth Bourgine back at work on the series.

In light of some fans' worries, the BBC has assured that Danny John-Jules is set to reprise his role as Dwayne Myers in the show.

Earlier in the year, Ralf disclosed his reasons for leaving the role of DI Neville Parker.

In a statement, he acknowledged the end of his run and expressed his thanks for the experience: "My time on Saint Marie has come to an end—what an end!

"New adventures await Neville, and he got to sail away into the sunset with his best friend. Who knows what happens for them next! " (sic).

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
