Amy Dowden's emotional real reason for rapid Strictly Come Dancing comeback after illness

Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has bravely battled through her breast cancer ordeal, determined to return for the show's 2024 series. However, shortly after making her comeback, the Welsh-born dancer faced a concerning health scare and was rushed to hospital during the live show.

Amy's representative promptly informed the BBC that the talented 34 year old sought medical attention "as a precaution" following the incident. They gladly reported she’s currently "much better" and wanted to "thank the Strictly family for their love and concern".

The 34 year old star, performing in the 22nd series alongside singer JB Gill, unfortunately had to sit out of the 2023 series due to her diagnosis.

In a powerful conversation earlier this year with Dr Liz O'Riordan on the 'So Now I've Got Breast Cancer' podcast, Amy shared her eagerness to inspire others by returning to dance so swiftly after treatment, saying: "Hopefully it will inspire anyone else going through any treatment or anything like this – it doesn't have to be cancer – that if Amy can do it and get back on the dance floor then you can get back there too."

Although Amy announced her plans to rejoin Strictly earlier this year, doubts crept in as her health took a serious turn during her illness, which at one point led to a stint in intensive care, as she recounted to the Mirror.

Reflecting on her frightening experience in the ICU, Amy Dowden stated: "I had severely low blood pressure, a low heart rate, I wasn't passing urine for 14 hours, my infection markers were at dangerous levels."

She continued, "I had three different types of antibiotics and I finally responded to the third type. We met the paramedics a week later and they said if I had gone to bed that night I might not have woken up the next morning."

Overcoming these challenges, Amy was able to return to Strictly Come Dancing, joining forces with JB, 37, for the series. After her hospitalisation, the JLS singer expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support Amy received.

On Instagram, he shared: "On behalf of both @amy_dowden and I, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for voting for us and wishing us well."

He added, "We absolutely loved our performance on Saturday night and are so grateful to be through to another week on @bbcstrictly Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support."
