I got divorced two weeks after my wedding - my dad forced me to go through with it
by Paige Freshwater · RSVP LiveWhile many brides-to-be dream of their wedding day, one woman found herself dreaming of her impending divorce. She had planned a lavish destination wedding with her child's father, but after learning about his stag do antics, she wanted to cancel the whole event.
However, as everything - flights, hotel, and ceremony - was already paid for, her father insisted she put on a brave face and proceed. A friend shared the bride's story on Reddit, saying: "She had a destination wedding, stupid expensive with this guy who she already had a rocky relationship with, they had a child together - like one-year-old?
"He cheated on her multiple times at his bachelor party. She tried to call the wedding off like three days before they were set to leave. Her dad basically said 'Nope, everything's paid for already'. It was a destination wedding so all of the guests had already bought their airline tickets and booked their stay."

Merely two weeks post-wedding, and shortly after returning home, the bride contacted a lawyer and filed for divorce.
The friend added: "I think part of this too was just societal pressure, like people who have been together for so long and share a child, they feel 'forced'".
One appalled commenter criticised the father's decision, saying: "At that point if you can't cancel bookings, apologise to everyone and try and have a group holiday instead. Just scrap the ceremony", reports the Irish Mirror.
Another added their two cents: "What a s****y dad. I don't have a good relationship with mine, but if I had ever expressed doubt, no amount of money would have stopped him from helping me get out of the wedding."
A third chimed in with a personal anecdote: "When my dad was walking me down the aisle at my wedding, he turned to me and said 'You know, it's not too late to back out if you want'. Such a wonderful man. I did get married—still happily so after 39 years."
Another user shared their unfortunate experience: "My first hubs slept with his best friend and she was also his grooms woman.I was fine with his bestie being a girl. I trusted him, didn't matter if I trusted her. Took me awhile to see it, but divorced within a year."
"Think he's actually more poly, I hate that he wasn't honest with himself and could have spared me and my son the heartache. We would have still been friends in that case. I was happy it was quick, he was an awesome stepdad to my son, I still don't think he thinks about us however. It was hard on my boy but found a very loving husband soon after. It's been 24 years now. Still happy."
