Ubisoft Reportedly Working on Rayman Remake Amid Company Uncertainty

by · eTeknix

Ubisoft is reportedly reviving one of its beloved franchises. According to new reports, Ubisoft Milan is now working on a Rayman remake. The development team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been reassigned to this project, leaving fans eager for updates on both titles.

According to Insider Gaming, sources revealed that a dozen developers from the Lost Crown team have moved to Ubisoft Milan to work on a Rayman remake, currently codenamed Project Steambot. While it’s unclear which specific Rayman game will be remade, the original installment seems the most likely candidate. However, not all developers are thrilled with the news. Rayman’s original creator, Michel Ancel, is back as a consultant, despite past allegations of toxic leadership.

Controversial Return of Michel Ancel

Ancel’s involvement in the Rayman remake has raised concerns. In 2020, reports accused him of fostering a toxic work environment, which led to his departure from Ubisoft the same year. Now that he’s back, some developers fear that his questionable practices could affect the project’s outcome.

Apart from the Rayman remake, Insider Gaming reports that part of the Lost Crown team is also contributing to other major Ubisoft projects, including Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the next Ghost Recon game, known internally as Project Ovr.

Ubisoft has yet to comment on the Rayman remake rumors or confirm the involvement of Ancel in any official capacity. Fans will need to wait and see whether this revival will be a success or face the same challenges as recent Ubisoft releases.
