Dutch Queen Maxima and daughters up their game with bold style choices

Renowned for her daring sense of style and unwavering love for vibrant hues, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has become a symbol of sartorial audacity.

And it seems that her three daughters, Princesses Catharina-Amalia, 20, Alexia, 19, and Ariane, 17, are following in her stylish footsteps.

Since assuming the role of queen consort to her husband King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands in 2013, Maxima's bold fashion choices have earned her admirers worldwide, solidifying her status as a revered style icon.

She effortlessly wears the spectrum of the rainbow, often accentuated by perfectly co-ordinated accessories.

In recent months, Maxima has elevated her style to new heights, while placing an emphasis on recycling her favourite pieces.

Queen Maxima is a longtime supporter of the Belgian fashion brand Natan, founded in 1983 by Édouard Vermeulen, and has worn no fewer than 153 dresses by the designer.

A notable example is the billowing turquoise shirt dress that she recently donned for the fourth time since 2021.

Crafted from taffeta, the A-line silhouette incorporated a wrap front, rolled-up sleeves and a prominent oversized belt - a recurring detail in Maxima's attire.

Enhancing her vibrant style, she added matching blue gem earrings, patent nude Salvatore Ferragamo pumps and a patterned Rough Studios mini bag.

Last month, Maxima showcased a playful feather-trimmed mini dress by Natan, which was another repeat.

By choosing accessories and jewellery in the same hue, the royal championed tonal dressing, creating another winning look.

However, this wasn’t always the case. In the early years of her marriage, Maxima's outfits were often hit or miss, plagued by unflattering fabrics and clashing colour combinations.

Since then, she has built a collection of coveted attire by the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Zimmermann, Max Mara, Victoria Beckham and Claes Iversen.

Maxima impressed in a gown by the latter on Prince's Day (Prinsjesdag), the opening of Dutch parliament, where she was accompanied by her husband and two eldest daughters.

For the occasion, she wore a custom-made dusty blue gown featuring an oversized bow at the shoulder.

Accessorising with a metallic silver Dior bag and Aquazzura platform sandals, the royal epitomised glamour.

This aesthetic was further reflected in her radiant make-up, which incorporated smoky eyeshadow and a dusting of golden bronzer across her cheeks.

Meanwhile, Princess Catharina-Amalia, the heir to the throne who had returned to the Netherlands for the first time in more than a year following a kidnap threat, captivated onlookers in a dramatic gown by Safiyaa. She expertly teamed the forest green Sarita dress with gold accessories by Jacquemus and Stuart Weitzman.

Less than two months earlier, Sarah, Duchess of York, had worn the very same dress at The Perfect World Foundation's awards ceremony in Sweden.

Catharina-Amalia appeared visibly confident in front of the camera, having been shielded from the public eye over her family's concerns for her safety, as well as being the subject of cruel body shaming on social media.

To the delight of royal enthusiasts, her sister, Princess Alexia, donned a retro scarlet gown belonging to their mother.

Maxima introduced the show-stopping dress in 2002 and wore it again while hosting Mexican President Vicente Fox at a state banquet at the Noordeinde Palace.

Alexia updated the look with a nude VBH clutch, also borrowed from her mother, and Gianvito Rossi sandals.

A few days later, Maxima made another alluring appearance alongside Catharina-Amalia at the Council of State dinner at the Palace.

The Queen chose to wear an icy blue Valentino gown for the third time, having first debuted it at the 2011 wedding of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco.

The exquisite lace design featured a strapless neckline and a tiered skirt adorned with chiffon ruffles, beautifully showcasing Maxima's enviable physique.

Inspired by her mother, Catharina-Amalia's affinity for bold, structured silhouettes reflects her embrace of classic yet modern elegance. Her evolving style highlights her increasing confidence and sophisticated fashion choices.
