'Fart blaster' from Despicable Me series tops Christmas toy list

A 'fart blaster' has top Christmas lists this year, as experts predict record sales.

The toy - from the American franchise of Despicable Me films - has a whopping 15 different trumping sounds and comes with two scents, banana and 'fart'.

The game retails for £29.99 and promises to take 'the silent but stinky farts to a whole new level'.

It will certainly spark conversation with families on Christmas Day, as the fart sounds differ from a tiny 'squeaker' to the ultimate 'clean the room' trump.

And it seems children can choose whether house smells like 'farts' or sweet bananas, as the plaything comes with the choice of two vials that can be loaded into the battery-operated machine.

However, the toy - which is made by Universal, Illumination and Moose Toys for Despicable Me 4 - must be used under the 'direct supervision of an adult,' meaning parents are in for a treat.

The jazzy fart blaster lights up and blows out 'real fart rings' and children can shoot the smelly gas up to six feet away.

However some have said the 'fart' scent smells more like burnt popcorn rather than rotten eggs and Brussels sprouts.

The toy is based on the 'fart gun' weapon created by Dr. Nefario in the popular Despicable Me film series.

In the movies, it emits brown smoke and is deadly enough to make an opponent pass out from the odour.

The fart blaster appeared on the Toy Retailers Association's annual list of the 20 'hottest toys', along with the Lego 2023 McLaren F1 race car, FurReal Peanut the Playful Monkey and UNO Show 'em No Mercy.

Items are gathered by an independent panel that provide inspiration for families each Christmas.

This year, the list features 14 toys that are £50 and under due to the cost of living crisis - as the festive season can be expensive for parents.

Parents now spend around £82 a month on gifts and treats from their kids in 2024, compared to £61 in 2021, according to research from Insights Family.

The previous sets from Toy Retailers Association contained many toys that were well over £100.

Television presenter and DreamToys ambassador Helen Skelton launched the 'hottest toys for Christmas' list.

She said, 'Every year, parents and families want to get the best gifts they can for their children.

'With so much choice it can be a challenge to make sure you're spending your hard earned money in the right place for the kids in our lives, which is why I'm thrilled to be helping launch this year's DreamToys list.'
