Israeli forces had been steadily closing in on Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader, for weeks before he was cornered and killed in a ruined house in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas is admitting to suffering "very painful and distressing" losses following the killing of leader Yahya Sinwar as IDF footage reveals his final moments.

The video showing Sinwar sitting in a chair in a bombed out building countered the Israeli narrative of the Hamas chief hiding in tunnels and using human shields. 

The video showed Sinwar sitting on a couch, surrounded by rubble, inside a damaged and dilapidated house.

Sinwar’s final moments were captured in a video, showing him sitting amid the rubble of a building hit by an Israeli tank shell. Sinwar threw sticks at the camera.

In the footage, Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar is seen sitting alone in a destroyed apartment in Gaza, covered in dust. He hurls a stick or plank at the approaching Israeli drone.
