442 new cases, 10 deaths

COVID-19 hospitalizations in B.C. dropped by about one per cent in the past 24 hours.

The province is reporting 442 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. over the past day.

There are now 517 people with COVID-19 who are hospitalized in B.C., a decrease of six since Tuesday. Those being treated in ICU dropped by 10, to 73.

Another 10 new COVID deaths have been reported throughout B.C. in the past 24 hours, including two in Interior Health, two in Fraser Health, four in Vancouver Coastal Health and two in Northern Health. To date, 2,883 British Columbians have died after contracting COVID-19.

The new cases include:

  • 111 new cases in Fraser Health
  • 69 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health
  • 105 new cases in Interior Health
  • 59 new cases in Northern Health
  • 98 new cases in Island Health

There have been five new healthcare facility outbreaks in the province in the past 24 hours, including at Merritt's Gillis House care home. There now remains 21 ongoing outbreaks at healthcare facilities across the province.

In the past 24 hours, 5,687 doses of the vaccine were administered in B.C. As of Wednesday, 90.6% of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.3% have received their second dose. To date, 55.8% of all eligible people 12 and older have received their third booster dose.

From Feb. 22-28, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 19.7% of cases and from Feb. 15-28, they accounted for 34.6% of hospitalizations.

  • Not vaccinated: 137 (29.4%)
  • Partially vaccinated: 24 (5.2%)
  • Fully vaccinated: 305 (65.4%)
