Israel on Thursday said it hit Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters in the Lebanese capital Beirut amid growing fears of an all-out war in the Middle East following recent days of exchange of hostilities between Israeli troops and Iran-backed group.

Israel has launched renewed airstrikes on southern Beirut while signaling a widening of its border ground offensive. Meanwhile, the WHO said dozens of health workers in Lebanon have died in the past day. DW has more.

The strike comes after Israeli and Lebanese troops reportedly exchanged fire for the first time since Israel crossed the border and brought the fight to Hezbollah

In a significant escalation of hostilities, Hezbollah has fired 40 rockets towards northern Israel, specifically targeting the Safed region. The attack prompted a swift response from Israel, which carried out retaliatory strikes. The situation marks a severe intensification of conflict in the area, raising concerns over further violence and instability.

For the second time, Iran has directly attacked Israel, launching hundreds of missiles on October 1. Analysts say the timing and logic of the attacks are down to pressure on Iran to respond following Israel's decisive blows against Lebanon-based Hezbollah leaders and Hamas.
