Egypt's president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Sunday that his nation has proposed a two-day ceasefire in Gaza to exchange four Israeli hostages with some Palestinian prisoners. 

Egypt has proposed an initial two-day ceasefire in Gaza to exchange four Israeli hostages of Hamas for some Palestinian prisoners, Egypt's president said on Sunday as Israeli military strikes killed 45 Palestinians across the enclave.

Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, speaking in Cairo, said the proposal also includes the release of some Palestinian prisoners.

According to Israeli news website Ynet, Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Burns will head their respective delegations in the talks in Doha.

Despite talk of negotiations, Israel continued to fight in Gaza and Lebanon

The purpose of the meeting is to secure a short-term ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, with hopes of paving the way for a lasting agreement, the official stated.

The main discussion this week was more focused on a post-war plan for Palestinian governance, reconstruction and security for the larger region.
