Christchurch man John Hope Muchirahondo has been found guilty of 17 counts of rape and sexual assault.

John Hope Muchirahondo was found not guilty on eight charges of sexual offending and the jury could not reach a verdict on five others.

The jury has already lost one member due to illness, and advise by the judge they could return a majority verdict if they could not reach a unanimous decision.
