M6 still closed after person killed when lorry crashed into central reservation
by Noora Mykkanen · MetroThe M6 remains closed for emergency repairs after one person was killed when a lorry crashed through the central reservation in Lancashire.
The M6 remains closed for southbound traffic between Preston and Lancaster after a crash involving two lorries and three cars yesterday morning. It has not been confirmed yet when the road will open.
One person died and others were injured after a HGV heading north smashed into the opposite carriageway and hit several vehicles.
The motorway remains closed between J33 and J32 while two lanes are also closed northbound. Diversions have been put in place parallel along the A6.
Elsewhere, the Tube strikes which were set to paralyse London today and next week have been called off after both Aslef and RMT suspended their planned walk-outs.

Traffic delays between Preston and Lancaster
There are severe delays between Preston and Lancaster on the M6 and the diversion route A6 after the fatal crash which closed the motorway.
Traffic appears to be stationary southbound near Lancaster on approach to the road closure and into the A6 diversion.
Traffic heading north appears to be coping.

All Tube strikes have been called off after pay deal
In case you missed it, all the Tube strikes were suspended after Aslef and RMT unions reached a deal with TfL.
The industrial action would have crippled most of the London Underground network today and next week if it had gone ahead.
RMT was the first one to suspend its walk-out, followed by Aslef after successful negotiations with Transport for London.
Aslef’s full-time organiser Finn Brennan said it agreed to suspend the planned strike action ‘following fresh talks and an improved offer.’
Brennan added that the union will discuss the offer with its reps at a meeting today.
‘We are pleased that this progress has been made and that strike action has been averted at this time,’ he added.
Claire Mann, TfL’s chief operating officer, said the transport authority is ‘pleased’ after the decision and that ‘Londoners will not be disrupted this week or next.’
She said: ‘We believe that we have made an offer to our trade unions that is fair, affordable, good for our colleagues and good for London – and we urge our trade unions to continue working with us.’

M6 remains closed after fatal lorry crash
One person was killed and several others injured after a lorry travelling north crashed through the central reservation.
The M6 was closed in both directions for an investigation. One lane has opened northbound while the southbound carriageway remains fully closed.
The gender and age of the casualties have not been confirmed yet by the police.
Lancashire Police said in a statement this morning: ‘At the moment we have been able to open Lanes 1 and 2 on the Northbound carriageway only between Junction 32 and 33.
‘The Southbound remains closed at this time as the carriageway needs to be re-surfaced. Traffic is still expected to be heavy in this area until the full carriageways reopens.
‘Please plan your journey accordingly and we will provide a further update once all lanes are reopened.’
