Deshaun Buchanan powers Idaho to win over Eastern Washington

MOSCOW, Idaho — Deshaun Buchanan ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns to lead Idaho to a 38-28 victory over Eastern Washington on Saturday night.

Buchanan scored on a 1-yard run late in the third quarter to stretch Idaho’s lead to 24-13. His 12-yard score made it 38-21 with 5:06 to play.

Idaho (6-3, 3-2 Big Sky Conference) took the lead for good, 13-7 early in the second quarter, when Jack Layne threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Dwyer.

Kekoa Visperas completed 11 of 14 passes for 156 yards and had a 1-yard TD run for Eastern Washington (2-6, 1-3). Jared Taylor completed 3 of 4 passes, two for touchdowns in the fourth quarter, to pull the Eagles to 31-21.

Central Washington 42, Midwestern State Texas 21

• Kennedy McGill had 223 yards passing and two touchdowns and added 96 yards rushing and two scores on the ground, and Tanner Volk intercepted three passes as Central Washington beat visiting Midwestern State, Texas.

Tyler Flanagan had 111 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Wildcats (6-2, 5-1 Lone Star Conference) piled up 257 yards on the ground and 480 overall.

Whitworth 39, Pacific 32

• Luis Salgado blew away Whitworth’s single-game rushing record to lead the visiting Pirates to a win over Pacific University.

Salgado ran for 354 yards on 26 carries (13.6 yards per carry) and scored three touchdowns to help Whitworth improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Northwest Conference.

Salgado’s rushing total broke the Pirates’ previous school record of 303 yards set by Damion Putney in 1998. It is the highest single-game effort in Division III this season, surpassing the 258 yards by Izayah Boss of Minn.-Morris on Oct. 12 vs. Westminster.

Pacific Lutheran 31, Lewis & Clark 28

• Darius Chaffin threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns and Pacific Lutheran staved off a late rally to beat Lewis & Clark.

A field goal from Cole Sargent with 4:05 to go in the third quarter gave the Lutes a 31-14 lead, but two straight touchdowns pulled the Pioneers within three with 13:07 to play before PLU held on.

Jase Ellamar had seven catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns for Pacific Lutheran (5-2, 3-1 NWC).

Linfield 62, Puget Sound 13

• Linfield racked up 644 yards of offense over visiting Puget Sound in a blowout win.

Mason Binning threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Joe Gallagher to make the score 28-6 in the second quarter, but that’s as close as the Loggers (1-6, 0-4 NWC) would get.
