Washington women’s soccer held goalless in loss at Iowa

The UW women’s soccer team saw its two-game winning streak snapped on Thursday with a 1-0 loss to No. 14 Iowa in Iowa City.

Berit Parten scored the lone goal for the Hawkeyes (12-1-3, 7-1-1 Big Ten) in the 36th minute.

The loss for the Huskies (8-5-2, 6-1-2) came on the heels of a two-game homestand with major victories over Michigan and then-No. 5 Michigan State. This was UW’s third ranked opponent in its last four conference games.

UW had only three shots on goal in Thursday’s contest, and Husky goalkeeper Mia Hamant had five saves.

More women’s soccer

• Seattle Pacific extended its streak without a loss to eight matches with a 3-2 win over Simon Fraser (8-2-1, 4-2-1 GNAC).

Nora Patterson scored right before halftime to tie the game 2-2, then netted her second goal in the 79th minute to give the Falcons (6-1-4, 4-0-3) the edge. Maya Parman also scored for SPU.

• Seattle U (8-3-4, 3-1-1 WAC) fell 1-0 to Grand Canyon (11-4-1, 5-0-0) after conceding a 75th-minute goal to Mayu Yamamoto to break a scoreless tie.

Men’s soccer

• Despite outshooting San Diego State 20-5, Seattle U couldn’t capitalize on its chances and lost 2-1.

Edgar Leon scored his fourth goal of the season for the Redhawks (6-4-3, 3-1-1 WAC) to even things in the first half, but the Aztecs (7-4-2, 4-0-0) took the lead for good in the 58th minute.

• After falling behind 1-0, Seattle Pacific scored twice and beat Simon Fraser (2-7-2, 1-4 GNAC) by a score of 2-1 in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The Falcons (5-3-2, 2-1-1) tied the game in the 30th minute with a Reymundo Mendez penalty kick, then Mendez scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second half.

Women’s volleyball

• Washington State (11-5, 6-1 WCC) took care of business at home against Oregon State (4-12, 2-4) with a four-set win — 25-15, 16-25, 25-20, 25-18.

Lucie Blazkova led the way for the Cougars in blocks (8) and aces (3), while Sage Brustad had a game-best 19 kills.

• Seattle U (4-13, 2-5 WAC) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-18) over Southern Utah (8-10, 4-3) at the Redhawk Center.

• Seattle Pacific (3-13, 3-5 GNAC) won its third game of the season, a five-set victory over Western Oregon (11-6, 3-5).

Golf

• The Northwest professionals lead the amateurs 6-4 after the first day of the Hudson Cup Matches. The 76th edition of the contest, which is modeled after the Ryder Cup, will conclude Friday at Meadow Springs CC in Richland.
