Alton Towers' rollercoaster evacuated with thrill-seekers rushed off popular ride

It comes months after a similar incident

Alton Towers guests have been evacuated from a popular rollercoaster at the site. Visitors at the renowned theme park were caught by surprise when an emergency evacuation began, reportedly due to the fire alarm sounding.

Footage circulating on social media captures the rollercoaster with a blaring alarm in the background. On social media, one visitor stated: "Wicker Man at Alton Towers being evacuated due to a fire alarm."

Another said with disbelief: "You can't make this up, the fire alarm has triggered again." It comes after the Wicker Man attraction faced a similar evacuation earlier this year when alarms went off on July 26.

That event was documented by video that showed smoke emanating from the attraction, reports the Mirror. A representative for Alton Towers clarified at that time: "Operations on Wicker Man were paused after reports of smoke in the ride area.

"Our technical team swiftly attended to the smoke and followed well-rehearsed procedures to quickly resolve the issue. Wicker Man is constructed with treated wood which inhibits fire ignition."

They added: "At this stage we believe the cause of the smoke was the result of a foreign object. The safety of our guests is our top priority and the ride will be closed until further notice while we carry out essential maintenance."

Wicker Man, boasting speeds of up to 44 mph, is the UK's first new wooden roller coaster in over 20 years. The official website reveals intriguing details about the ride: "Wicker Man was constructed on the site of a previous attraction called 'The Flume'. The ride features a soundtrack created by the same company responsible for the catchy theme tune of The Smiler."

It also mention: "A secret language of runes was specifically created for Wicker Man. See if you can decode the Beornen's messages as you make your way through the queue."

The Mirror has reached out to the park for further comment.
