A man has been arrested following a collision on a busy road near a Derbyshire village. Police were called to Willington Road, near Repton, at around 5.10am on Tuesday morning (November 5) to reports that a man had been hit by a car.

Officers believe that the man had left his vehicle, a blue Audi A3, following an altercation with the driver of another car, a black Kia, moments before the collision took place. The driver of the Kia is reported to have driven off in the direction of Repton following the incident.

Following the incident, Repton Bridge was closed to allow accident investigation work to take place. A statement from the AA's roadwatch service said: "B5008 Willington Road is closed and heavy traffic is building due to crash investigation work. The road is closed in both directions following a crash that took place at around 5am on Tuesday."

The Audi driver, who is in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment where he remains in a serious, but stable condition. Willington Road was closed for more than nine hours while vehicle recovery and collision investigation work took place, reopening at around 2pm on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said an investigation is in the "early stages" and that a 37-year-old man from Nottingham had been arrested on suspicion of GBH. A statement from the force reads: "Detectives are appealing for dash cam footage from anyone who may have been travelling in the Willington Road area of Repton, following a collision earlier today.
