Brits told to prepare for longer airport security checks in Turkey after terror attack

British tourists planning a getaway to Turkey have been cautioned about enhanced security procedures following a devastating terror incident earlier in the week.

The popular destination for both beach holidays and city breaks was rocked by violence as an aerospace facility came under attack near Ankara on Wednesday (October 23).

The Turkish authorities reported the loss of at least five lives, with another 22 individuals injured in Kahramankazan, situated about 40km from the capital. Additionally, the culprits involved in the attack were killed, reports the Express.

Responding to the situation, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) released guidance urging UK citizens in the vicinity to stay vigilant, comply with advice from local officials, and remain updated via news outlets.

A subsequent update published by the FCDO on the same Thursday highlighted that travellers can expect more thorough security screenings at Turkish airports.

The official Gov.uk notification stated: "While the incident has ended, the response is ongoing, including increased security measures at Turkish airports, which means security checks will take longer than normal. If you are in the area near the attack, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local media."

Travel insurance provider Staysure's experts note that Turkey stands as the sixth most favoured destination among Britons going abroad for this October half-term.
