A man has been arrested in connection with two alleged assaults in Derby over the weekend, one of which has left a man with serious, life-changing injuries. Police say the first of the two incidents took place in Normanton Road at around 9.30pm on Saturday (September 28) when a woman reported being attacked by a man with a hammer.

The woman, who is in her 40s, suffered head injuries in the alleged incident and went to a venue in nearby Wilmot Street to get help. Officers say a number of people were at an event at the venue at the time and would like to hear from those who attended, but haven’t spoken to police yet.

The woman is said to have suffered cuts to her head and was taken to hospital for treatment. The second alleged incident took place at a property in Churchside Walk, Stockbrook, at around 2.30am in the early hours of Sunday (September 29).

A man suffered serious, life-changing injuries after a reported assault by another man. He remains in hospital.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with both alleged assaults and remains in police custody today (Wednesday, October 2). Three other men and a woman have also been arrested in connection with the Churchside Walk incident. They remain in custody.

However, I’d like to reassure residents that all of the parties involved in these incidents are known to each other and there is no risk to the wider public.
