Samsung could launch a cheaper flip phone next year

A Galaxy Z Flip FE?

Foldable phones seem to be here to stay, but as we’ve pointed out in our test of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and others, they still cost far too much for most users. But the high price tags may soon be coming to an end.

Tipster @Jukanlosreve (via Digital Trends) reports that Samsung could launch a cheaper foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip FE, as early as next year. The FE, or Fan Edition, is Samsung’s slightly downgraded, but also cheaper, version of the company’s big launches each year.

According to the rumour, the Galaxy Z Flip FE will be equipped with the same Exynos 2400 system chipset that powers both the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus.

The news comes after Samsung EVP Jaejune Kim hinted at cheaper foldables during a call saying it is considering “reducing purchase barriers” to make them more accessible.

Other recent FE devices include the Galaxy Watch FE and Galaxy S24 FE but Samsung will have to be careful with the pricing and the flagship models are often reduced to cheaper prices making it less alluring.
