Barclays has explained customers should "call the bank" after being declined payments. The high street bank spoke out on Twitter, now X, after a customer got in touch concerned over their payments being blocked by the bank.

The social media user typed: "I've been sent a replacement but currently waiting on delivery. In the Barclays app, there's a digital version of the new card but it's being declined for payments and I've received a text of more fraudulent activity on this new card, apparently.

"I can't reply "N" to the text because the one payment isn't mine but the others are. What do I do as I need to pay for travel to and from work today? I can't withdraw cash as I have no card and I can't use the digital form."

Barclays said: "The general advice on this situation would be to call the bank to speak to an agent to understand why blocks on card(s) are happening and help the customer resolve that. Sometimes, it could be as simple as confirming whether suspicious usage on the customer card/bank account is genuine or fraudulent."

On its Twitter page, it said: "If you'd pop into DM with me, we can look at things more closely for you and do our best to see how we can help. Thanks for reaching out to us here on social media. I'm really sorry to hear that you've been a victim of fraud and that you've ordered a replacement card and still experiencing more fraudulent activities on this card. Have you spoken with our fraud team at all?

"I'll advise that you reach out to them immediately on +44800 389 1652. They're available 24/7. You may also consider freezing the card temporarily until you speak the team. If you tap 'your cards' on the home screen, then your debit card, followed by the 'temporary freeze icon'. You'll then see a toggle to turn this on and off. In the meantime, I've dropped some links below to give you more info on how to stay safe from fraud and scam and also how to report them."
