First picture of killer student who 'heard voices' telling her to dispose of newborn

This is the first picture of a student convicted of murdering her newborn baby in Coventry. Jia Xin Teo, 22, was found guilty following a trial today [Thursday, October 24], which was told she had 'heard voices' telling her to dispose of the newborn.

West Midlands Police were called to an address in Raglan Street after concerns were raised for the child after Teo arrived at hospital showing signs of having given birth on March 6. Staff at the hospital asked her if she had given birth, but she denied having done so.

Police said this caused concern that Teo had abandoned the baby, so officers attended her address. There, they sadly found the body of the baby girl in a box.

Teo later admitted having given birth and being scared in case her family and friends back home in Malaysia found out and it affected her studies. For this reason she declined all medical help, giving birth at her address and hiding it from her flatmates, police said.

She also claimed to have been "hearing voices", which told her to dispose of her child. Teo was remanded until her trial, which began in October this year until she was found guilty of murder at Warwick Crown Court today. She will be sentenced at a later date.
