Full police statement after man hit by car in Birmingham

Police sealed off a busy road in Hockley after a pedestrian was struck by a car. The man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after the collision at the junction of Nursery Road and Hunters Road, Hockley, shortly after 10pm, on Thursday, October 24.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was rushed to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital in a serious condition. Footage of the incident showed a huge 999 response at the scene.

The road was blocked off by a police car and a bus was seemingly unable to pass through the area. Pedestrians were seen standing at the edge of a cordon.

West Midlands Police issued a statement on the incident today, Friday, October 25. A force spokesperson said: "We were called to Nursery Road last night following reports of a man in the road.

"Officers attended and blocked the road to allow ambulance colleagues to tend to him. He was taken to hospital and the road was later re-opened."

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson previously told BirminghamLive "We were called to reports of an collision involving a car and a pedestrian at the junction of Nursery Road and Hunters Road in Aston just after 10pm.

"An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a man with serious injuries. Following treatment from ambulance staff, he was conveyed to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital."
