Alison Steadman has opened up about her sense of 'dread' following the conclusion of filming for the beloved series Gavin and Stacey.

The much-anticipated final Christmas special of the hit BBC show is set to grace screens later this year, marking the last hurrah for characters brought to life by Ruth Jones, James Corden, and others. While fans are on tenterhooks for the finale, the details of the ending are still under wraps.

As production wrapped, Alison shared her emotional journey with the programme on The One Show, saying: "We've had a great five weeks. We only finished on Monday night but we were all dreading that final scene when we finished. 90% of us were in tears. Some people braved it but it's been so fantastic."

She continued, reminiscing about the wrap party: "We had a wrap party. It was very nice, it was lovely. We'll just miss not filming it anymore. It was fabulous."

Praising the writing prowess of James and Ruth, who play Smithy and Nessa respectively, Alison lauded their "witty" scripts. As reported by Wales Online, she confessed her immediate connection to the role: "James and Ruth together, they are amazing, their scripts. So witty and funny! When I read the first scene, I was like, I've got to do this. I couldn't wait. I was going through the script and they didn't let me down! ", reports the Mirror.

In Dinas Powys, the real-life setting for Pam and Mick's 'Essex' home, James took a moment to thank the fans for their unwavering support as the shooting came to a close.

He expressed his gratitude, saying, "Today is our last day in 'Essex'. Everyone in Dinas Powys has been so great to the show so thank you very, very much. It means more to us than you will ever know and we hope that you like the show."

Ruth added her own thanks: "Thanks so much for being such dedicated fans and for being here every day and watching us even though we were there hid in the house. We hope that you will enjoy our little episode on Christmas Day."

The BBC announced the end of filming on their official Twitter page with a message that stated, "And that's a wrap... for the last time ever. See you on Christmas Day! #GavinAndStacey."
